Last week’s field trip to the Rynek ended up being a rewarding one to the Library. Something we did not expect was a 20 minute virtual French lesson. All students had the opportunity to interact with the white board computer program to learn numbers and common expressions used in greetings. We also spent time in the American Library section learning some Wroclaw legends and having a contest to put together puzzles of the United States of America. Many students were surprised with the visiting sections for Romanians, Italians, Spanish, and the French and Korean languages. Students were also sent on a scavenger hunt in the Polish library to find out how it relates to cultures around the world.
Our ultimate goal was to visit as many shops and restaurants in the vicinity that had to do with our seven cultures, but time did not prevail. We quickly visited six of the restaurants and shops such as the Indian Happy Buddha and the Chinese shop near the Chinese restaurant Swiat Chin and then moved on to the Rynek’s KFC where they generously allowed us to eat all the seven cultures of food upstairs after purchasing drinks there. A great big thanks to the three moms that helped make this adventure a success! Without their coordination of bringing the food together, we would not have had enough time to enjoy it all.
Next on the agenda:
Students will write thank you letters, begin preparing their brochures for the summative assessment, rewrite their compare/contrast essays on Robin Hood, and take a math test for our geometry unit. The students have practiced many times for this final math test and feel very confident about it, so they seem excited to take it (but maybe that’s just my impression!).
I am writing report cards this week so I plan to stay every day after school. If there is anything you would like to speak to me about, you will find me in front of the computer upstairs!
Math Workshop for Parents:
Three of us will be holding a workshop on Tuesday evening at Zielinskiego. Ms. Ewa, the upper school math teacher, Mr. Goto and I will be there from 6 – 8 pm if you’d like to see how we go about teaching math. I have chosen fractions as my main activity using manipulatives. Ms. Ewa will be using a computer program and Mr. Goto will explain the New Zealand math program that is being implemented. Let me know if you’d like to attend.
Art: Grade 4 students are working on still-life during art classes. They have learned composition, lighting effect and rearrangement in still-life. They are also learning how to represent shading, brush strokes and using shadow with water color paints.
